Mr. Kobe Bryant, the BEST in the World

OK, I was lying in my first ever post, and Kobe Bryant decided to prove me wrong. On the biggest stage in the world in the biggest city in the world, Kobe dropped an unreal 61 at MSG shooting a perfect 20-20 from the line, for the best performance ever at MSG.

Now look, I'm not obsessed with Kobe (flying np), but I know where credit it is due and this guy has earned it over and over again. I can't believe I am saying this, but even without the same amount of championships, you have to put this guy in the convo with Jordan. The performances Kobe has had are unreal and he is usually shooting equal to or better then his team (Source: Credible Kobe Fan). I wasn't able to watch this game, but I did have money on it. When I saw ESPN's gamecast show 5-7, 13 points, with 5:25 to go in the first quarter, I looked to my roomate and said, "here we go, he's still got it. Bynums gone, and he's just going to come out and show everyone that he still has it." Yeah, I was right, and Kobe has done it again. Words don't exactly describe the man's performance so if you care to witness it, put on Sportscenter (greatest show ever), because it's on all day until 3PM.

Luckily the Laker's did win and I was able to turn a profit. Yesterday turned out to be solid thanks to the Spurs/Warriors game. Going to bed it looked like the night was going to be dudley, but when I woke up this morning, I saw the Spurs won by 5, exactly what I needed. The night turned out well, but even better, Andrew Bynum's out 8-12 weeks and this was Kobe's first game without him and he dropped 61. Kobe, score 101? Yeah he can do it, will he? Doubt it, but keep watching the BEST player in the world to find out, because he'll be sure to turn in some sick performances.

Readers, please let me know your thoughts on Kobe and where you compare him to Jordan and the greats off all time.

  1. 1A. MJ
    1B. Kobe
...but MJ's retired and Kobe's in his prime

  2. 1a. MJ
    1B. Kobe (present day)
    1c. Lebron (the future)

I think that limits & boundaries are always being pushed as a sport develops. Athletes work harder & develop new strategies & tactics to improve their craft as years go on. With that said, I feel that Lebron may do a lot more than Kobe & MJ because he has a while till he even reaches his prime and it is undeniable of his talent. Personal all time favorite for me will be Jordan....I don't even own a pair of his kicks though (more of an addidas guy).

  3. Kobe Bryant is the most talented player in the NBA, I don't think anyone can argue that. AND if Kobe can pull out a couple more championships I think it's fair to say Kobe and Jordan will be the best of all-time. That is until that freak of nature (LBJ) wins 10 championships. The kid isn't even near his prime, 3 more years guys...

  4. Eh, im not nearly as impressed as you guys, did you notice he had ZERO rebounds, and minimal other contributions. Jordan would rape kobe defensively. And as for offensive talent, i think there are a few guys that could put up just as many points if they were given the FGA that kobe was (like Kevin Martin, Danny Granger, even a healthy Gilbert). Kobe's done guys, he hasn't dont anything with out shaq and choked in the finals last year vs. a boston team that went to seven games vs. a neophyte atl squad!

  5. First, impressed? I don't know how you can't be impressed with him dropping 61. Defensively, I agree, Kobe is a great defender, but MJ just had a way of knowing where that ball was going. I wouldn't say he's done, but I don't see him getting more then 1 more championship, if that. And don't forget, he went 20 of 20 from the line, can Kmart, Gilb, and Grang do that? Maybe, but Kobe's a superstar, his time may be coming to an end, but still the best player in the world for now, LBJ plays at MSG tonight, let see what happens.

  6. Alright, you guys are raising my blood pressure...Lebron will break all the records (can he possibly avg a triple double one of these years?) because he's a freak not because he's more talented. Kobe doesn't need to pass because he usually shoots a higher fg and ft percentage than the rest of the team...which really means he only passes because he has to. He's also first team all defensive team almost every year. Neil J, those guys you mentioned don't get the fga because they can't do what kobe can do with that many fga. Also, MJ had Pippen who's in the top 50 of all time

  7. 1. No way scottie would have made top 50 if he hadn't played with MJ, i think everyone can agree with that

    2. There are several nights this year where Granger has gone 17/17, in fact he hasn't missed a free throw in 22 games this year, devin harris went 24/24 one game vs. the suns, kmart went 12/12 a handful of times, and believe me these guys can score just as well as kobe if they were given the fga.

    3. In any indiscriminate player ranking (Holinger's PER, Yahoo! fantasy ranks) kobe falls around number 5, well behind LBJ, CP, granger, and dirk.

    4. Yes lebron will break all the records, but i don't think him or kobe is the best offensive player right now, my vote is with kevin martin, get league pass, watch this guy on any night, i feel like he could average 40/game with a good offense and decent pg

  8. also, i was more impressed by cp's near Q-D:

    27 pts, 15 ast, 10 rebs, 7 stls, 1 blk, 12/12 ft's

    or lebrons line tonight:
    52-10-11, and 2 blks

  9. In response to Neil J.

    1. I agree
    2. Disagree, don't think other players can shoot as well as Kobe.
    3. True, he doesn't always pad all the stats.
    4. Disagree and I don't think its b/c K Mart plays in Sacramento and doesn't get enough attention. My choice would actually be Dwayne Wade after his comeback from the injury. He's the best offensive player for me.

  10. 1. MJ and Pippen didn't do much without each other...although MJ averaging 20 points in washington at the tail end of his career, with limited athletic ability, is amazing.
    2. All those guys are/will be superstars, except for d. harris...j/k...but they haven't entered the mj kobe and lbj discussion yet and I'm not sure that they ever will
    3. Dirk = Okur...
    4. I have to go with Kobe or CP3

  11. To me he seems more like a little kid and less like a man leading his team. This 61 point game, while seen by most people as morale booster, to me seems like a crowd pleaser on the biggest stage in the NBA. He saw how Lebron was treated when he came to New York and he's just trying to make sure people don't forget about him. That's why he stayed in the game versus the Cavs after injuring his finger. He's made things personal. And in my humble opinion thats just straight up childish. He needs to grow the fuck up and stop looking at everything so personally. And until he gets over his ego, he will never win without Shaq on his side. Same reason why Lebron won't win!

  12. Unless they lost the game, I can't agree with anything you said. A win is a win, no matter how you get it.
